McLarnin Beats Ross

NEW YORK, September 18.

Jimmy McLarnin regained his world welterweight championship to-night by winning a stirring lifteen-round bout from Barney Ross. A crowd of 25,000 paid about 115,000 dollars to witness the contest, which took place at the Madison Square Gardens Long Island city bowl. McLarnin Weighed lOst (ijlb. and Ross lOst. Jib. The two judges were divided, but the referee, Mr Donovan, cast his deciding vote in favour of McLarnin on fighting and boxing ability combined. Ross scored sporadically in furious, two-fisted attacks, drawing considerable blood. One of McLarnin’s eyes was closed. Ross was hammering him with both hands at the bell, but early points scored on slashing open attack and crafty in fighting gave McLarnin the advantage.
