TOWN BOARD ELECTIONS

Havelock and Taradale POLLING DAY TO-MORROW Voting Qualifications Polling in connection with the election for members of both the Havelock North and Taradale Town Boards takes place to-morrow, and in both centres a fair amount of interest is being taken. The franchise in each case is a residential qualification, and is not restricted to ratepayers only, as in the ease of a poll on loan proposals. All persons who are over the age of 21 years and have resided in the respective electoral areas for a period' of three months and over are entitled to vote. Should their names be not on the roll they arc entitled io a declaration vote.

At Havelock North nine candidates have been nominated for the seven vacancies. All the members of tho old board —Messrs. H. R. von Dadelszen (chairman), A. Christie, A. R. Greenwood, J. J. Nimon, W. Paton, A. Toop and E. C. Stratton —are again offering their services. Messrs. W. S. Davidson and G. E. G. Rogers are the new candidates.

On the roll' are over 700 names, and it is anticipated that a fairly large percentage will exercise their right to vote.

The polling will be in the Town Board Hall, and will be open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The returning officer is Mr. W. H. Anderson, and it is expected that the results will be known about 8 o’clock. A total of eleven candidates has been nominated at Taradale, but one has since withdrawn. Five members of the old board—Messrs. J. Williamson (chairman), W. H. C. Howard, F. O. Anderson, W. Wainscott and J. Gilmour —have reoffered their services. The new candidates are Messrs. W. Leyland, H. 0. Neilson, G. D. Webb, J. A. Wilkinson and A. L. Waterhouse. A total of 770 names are on tho roll, but as numerous names are not included owing to the impression that the voting was by a ratepayers’ franchise, several declaration votes are expected. As a division of opinion exists a larger poll than usual is likely. The polling booth will be in the Taradale Town Hall and will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mr. W. G. Jarvis will be the returning officer and the results will be made known about 8 p.m.
