Sonnenberg Beats Detton

By Telegraph —Press Association AUCKLAND, Sept. 17.

Gus Sonnenberg, former wrestling champion of the world, and Dean Detton were responsible for about 40 minutes of the brightest and most exciting wrestling seen in recent years. Sonnenberg won by two falls to one, the bout ending in the fifth round. There was a sensational opening to the match, Sonnenberg charging head first into his opponent heavily three or four times immediately the gong had sounded. He then pounced upon Detton to secure the first fall with a body press within 15 seconds of the start. The second fall went to Detton in the third round when, after a series of flying tackles, he back-loop slammed his opponent and gat down for a body press. The match ended almost as sensationally as it had commoneed. At the end of'the fourth round Detton escaped from a possible Boston crab by pulling himself under the ropes. Sonnenberg repeated thia performance early in the fifth round and Detton commenced to argue with the referee. While thus engaged Detton was bowled over with flying tackles and Sonnenberg pounced upon him to secure the winning fall.
