COMMUNITY LIGHTING
Scheme for Havelock North
Regarding the proposed community lighting scheme in Havelock North, the Town Board decided last evening to carry on with the suggestion, following a report submitted by the clerk, Mr. W. H. Anderson, and the board’s electrical engineer, Mr. D. Joll. ■ Mr. Anderson reported that he ami Mr. Joll had investigated the question, and it bad been determined that with a minimum of nine lights a community scheme could be installed at a cost of £35. It was proposed to charge £1 10/for the installation of the first light and £1 for each additional one. The lights would be erected in the centre of the village outside the shop windows and it was expected that they would give a return of 33 1-3 per cent. It was thought that the lights, if installed', should be kept lit until about half an hour after the last bus arrived in Havelock. They had consulted Taradale and Hastings with regard to the
scheme and considered that such a scheme could well be adopted in Havelock.
After a brief discussion the board decided to carry on with the proposal
and the clerk was authorised to pro eeed with the necessary work.
