McKay Defeats Knuckey
“BEST FIGHT FOR YEARS”
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
GISBORNE. Sept. 15. Making his debut in the professional ranks, Billy McKay (Gisborne), ex-fly-weight New Zealand amateur champion, defeated Len Knuckfiy (Hastings) on points over 10 rounds last night in what is regarded as the best fight seen here for many years. Though McKay won eight rounds, the fight was not really one-sided, and was contested at a terrific pace throughout.
The Poverty Bay amateur championships were decided during the evening, and as a result the following were chosen to represent the district at the New Zealand amateur championships at Hastings next week. S. Machett (middleweight), V. Davy (welter), M. Callaghan (light).
