NEW STATIONS
Australian Relay System
SEVEN TRANSMITTERS
Another official announcement has been made concerning the new regional relay stations for Australia, but it has been made by the Broadcasting Commission and not by the responsible authority—the Post Office. It is now promised that seven stations will be in operation next year, but promises have so often been broken that listeners will reply “Hearing is believing. ’ The stations are to he located near Launceston (Tasmania), Townsville (Q.) Grafton (N.S.W.), Sale (Vic.), Dubbo (N.S.W.), Wagin (W.A.), and Nhni (Vic.) 'The four first-named are to open with 7500 watts (the same ns 2CO) and the other three with 10,000. These figures are a big drop from the 20,000 originally promised, but provision will be made to allow of future increases up to 60,000 watts, and new type aerials are expected to give much greater coverage than under existing conditions. All the stations except the Western Australian should interest New Zealanders.
