“The Last Gentleman,” which George Arliss made after “The House of Rothschild,” is perhaps the most uncommon picture that has been seen for some time, and one of the finest Arliss vehicles that could have been written. It is the story of an eccentric widower of Massachusetts, whose temper and peculiarities leave his children consistently bewildered, especially as he is extremely wealthy and cannot be far from the grave. His tyranny first drives bis family from his household, but he finally brings them back when he tires of life. In the large and variegated “family” appearing with George Arliss are Edna May Oliver, Janet Beecher, Ralph Morgan, Frank Albertson. Charlotte Henry and Edward Ellis, all highly important in the story narration. “The Last Gentleman'' is a delightful departure from standardised motion picture formula, a comedy in which there are also sobs. It is a United Artists release.
