Hastings Taxi Fares
BOROUGH ACCEPTS SCALE
A shilling-a-milo basis has been adopted by the Hastings Borough Council for taxi fares within tha borough boundary.
Reporting to last night's meeting of the council upon letters from the Cpmmtssroner of Transport and from eight taxi-drivers, asking that the minimum fare bo fixed at 1/- a mile, the traffic committee of the council, after full consideration, submitted the following scale of fares for the council’s consideration :—
For a distance not exceeding one mile. —For one, two or three passengers. Mußrnum fare 1/-, maximum fare 1/6. For more than three passengers; Maximum and minimum 1/6. For each and every additional quarter-mile.—Maximum and minimum fare of 3d irrespective of the number of passengers. Double rates are to be charged after midnight till 6 a.m. All taxis are to be htted with efficient speedometers to the satisfaction of the council.
These recommendations were adopted. The committee also recommended that the town clerk* should be instructed to prepare the necessary by-laws covering these charges and providing also for a number of additional matters including a clause that waiting time shall be charged for at the rate of 6d for every complete five minutes or part thereof, and another that a child under five years of ago shall not be counted as a passenger if accompanied by an adult, but may bo charged full fare if not accompanied.
