REP. MATCHES Many End-of-Season Gaines HASTINGS TEAMS’ SUCCESSES (By “Centre.”) The game between the Hastings and Napier Thursday representatives was very exciting, the final score being 16—10 in Hastings' favour. Hastings forwards played a very fine game, their shooting being accurate and their field work fast. Of the 16 goats scored, J. Robinson scored 9, A. Wilkie 6, and M. Lewis 1. The centres also played splendidly, H. Bligh and G Giles showing up to great advantage, their fast, sure passes being a feature of their game. The defence played strongly throughout and had the advantage of being taller than their opponents Inter-House Came, Anothei game of considerable interest and one winch was witnessed by a yery enthusiastic crowd was that between McKenzies (Napier) and Jayarrs (Hastings McKenzies). The Napier team are top (equal) with another team, oi Napier s Thursday competition so that the contest was not without its interest . Both teams gave a splendid display, and although the Hastings team showed great improvement and played really well, they tacked the speed and finish of their opponents, who, were victorious by 10—6 M. Wyness (Jayarrs) was unfortunate, an ankle injury preventing her from playing her usual last game. E. Carswell defence, put in some splendid work while the forwards combined well and eome good goals were netted Intermediate Seven-a-slde,

in the semi-finals of the intermediate seven-a-side, St. Matts played* a very good game against Havelock, the former winning both. St, Matts shooting and combination were much unproved and they are to be congratulated on their good games, ip the final they met High School C and after a fast game U.S. C were the winners 4—2, thus winning the Intermediate seven-a-side with St. Matts the runners-up. Saturday Rep. Games. The Hastings Intermediate and junior teams have not had their regular games tor a week or two and this was very evident m their matches on Saturday when they tired badly towards thi end oi their games. The game between Intermediate and Napier second-grade reps, was marked by very fast play at times and was evenly contested throughout. Hastings were ott their shooting for the first few minutes, but settled down to scoring later while Napier made their best effort in the second spell and scored consistently to the end. In the Hastings forwards S. Lewis played a good fast game. The centres combined well and sent the ball to the forwards in good style. The final score was Hastings 10, Napier 8. During the first half of the Hastings junior reps. v. Napier third-grade reps, game Hastings distinctly had the best of the play, the half-time score being 6 —l in their favour. On recommencing they quickly added to his score but in this spell the Napier players put up a special effort and scored rapidly. T. Love for Hastings played a splendid forward game, her shooting being very reliable. The defence throughout was of the best, P. Loomes being the outstanding player. The final score was 10—7 in favour of Hastings. Results of Competitions. The list of winner for the 1934 season is as follow:— Senior. —West End, with Havelock as runners-up. Thursday.—Convent Old Girls with Diamond R as runners-up. Intermediate.—Convent, with High School C as runners-up. Junior. —Convent C, with High School I) and Havelock as runners-up. Senior A seven-a-side.—West End. Senior B seven-a-side.—Convent Old Girls (Thursday.) Intermediate seven-a-side. — High School B. Junioi seven-a-side.—High School D. The Senior B seven-a-side championship is a new grade added this year and the association has recently purchased a fine cup for the winners. Hastings Senior Championship Match. Thia has always been a very difficult match to arrange since the winning Thursday team and the winning Saturday must play off. This year it has been decided to hold the match in the Drill Hall on Wednesday, September 19. The competing teams will be West End (Saturday) and C.O.G. (Thursday.) Annual Dinner, All players are asked to keep the evening of September 27 free when the annual qinner will be held. This function was introduced last year and proved itself a fitting wind-up to a successfbul saeson and was greatly enjoyed by all those present. All past players are cordially invited and all those who wish to attend are asked to forward their names to Miss E. O'Connor, secretary, Hastings Basketball Association, by September 20.
