Drama Festival

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l wish heartily to congratulate the promoters of tho Hawke’* Bay Drama Festival which made such an auspicious commencement in the Assembly Hall last evening. The three one-act plays presented, although entirely diiierent in sentiment, created much interest and earned hearty applause troni the audience. The arrangement by which Miss Kiore King gave her criticisms alter each performance was excellent, and was keenly loilowed by those present. 1 now desire to utter a word of warning to our Hastings people. 1 am in

a position to know that a section of the Napier people who want everything held HI Napier will, when the theatre is built in Napier, make every endeavour to have tins drama festival held there. Now this festival, as far ns Hawke's Bay is concerned, had its origin in Hastings, and it is up to us jealously to guard our own interests, and oppose tooth and nail any endeavour to have this festival held anywhere else but Hastings. However, if the attendance is no better than it was last night, somewhere about 200, a very large proportion being Napier people, it would seem as if our opponents have some grounds for their ambitions. I earnestly appeal to all lovers of the dramatic art iu Hustings to support this drama festival, as by so doing they are looking after their own interests.--Yours etc., “PLAYGOKH.” Hustings, Sept 13.
