Motor Factory Extensions
That the motor industry continues to
thrive is clearly manifested by the big increase's in new car registrations, and for some weeks past it has been general knowledge that at least one of Britain’s , largest manufacturers—namely, the Austin concern—is inaugurating further factory extensions in order to cope with the rising demand for its products. It is now revealed that the new scheme, involving n floor area of 127,000 square feet, will cost in all no less than £28,000, a.nd wilt complete the reorganisation of the facilities at Longbridge for body-finishing, commenced some fifteen months ago.
With the £lOO,OOO expended on extensions during this period, the Austin company will have added' over "00,000 square feet of new premises to its already huge factory at Longbridge, to staff which full}’ over 17,000 workers tiro now required.*
