GOLFERS’ DISPUTE
Hastings Men Concerned CHARGES WITHDRAWN Two well known Hastings citizens were concerned in a case called at this morning’s sitting of the Hastings Magistrate’s Court before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., when, on the information of Henry Sydney Buttle Ribbands, Jack Allred Donne was charged with assaulting complainant on August 17 by throwing him to the ground “nd pushing him into a lake. The informant Ribbands was charged with stealing, on the same date, a golf ball, valued at 2/6, the property of Donue. The charge in each instance arose Iroin circumstances attending a game of goll at Beatsons Park. Mr L. A. Rogers, who appeared lor Donne, asked His Worship for leave to withdraw unreservedly tho information on account of the lact that a settlement between the parties had been reached. Mr E. J. Hallett, who appeared for Ribbands, then asked for leave to withdraw the charge of assault, and Mr Rogers rose to interject with tho aj> parent purpose of seeking to persuade Mr Hallett that it was not necessary to discuss the mutter any further. His Worship: Yk>u want as little publicity as possible? Mr Rogers: That is so. Mr Hallett went on to say that one of the conditions of the settlement between the parties was that when the case was called in Court it should be made known by counsel that Ribbands'* withdrawal of his complaint was conditional upon Donne’s withdrawal of the charge of theft.
His Worship gave leave to withdraw both informations.
