OBITUARY

Mr. William Carr

A Blenheim telegram reports the death of Mr William Carr, probably Blenheim’s best known resident, aged about 78. He was a member of the Wairau River Board for 48 years, had been on the Blenheim Borough Council almost continuously since 1903, and the Marlborough Power Board since its inception. He was chief engineer of the Blenheim Fire Brigade for over seven years.

Air Carr commenced business as a tinsmith in a small shed in 1881 and died one of the principal businessmen of Marlborough and one of the largest property owners in Blenheim. His interests included an extensive hardware, plumbing and electrical business, a building and contracting business, joinery factory, timber mills and picture theatre. He married in 1931 and is survived by a widow. There is no family.
