PATANGATA COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING HELD. (Own Correspondent). WAIPUKURAU, Sept. 1.1. The monthly meeting of the I’atangata. County Council was held'at Waipukurau to-day, the chairman, Air. Chas. Pattison, presiding over Crs. J. D. Ormond jr., H. Parsons, W. T. Kittow, E. C. Nation, C. R. Edgecombe, E. T. Wilder, A. W. S. Longley and It. H. White. The engineer, Mr. J. C. McLuuehlan, and the clerk, Mr. J. AV. Elliott, were also in attendance. '"he Central Hawke’s Bay' Power Board advised that a street light had been installed’ at the junction of Brogden and Knorp streets, at Ota.nc. —Received.
Correspondence received from A. Watts and four others, read: “We the undersigned ratepayers now in the Waipawa County, whose properties were originally in the Patangata County and the late Otane Town Board area., beg respectfully lo protest against the increase in our special rates, due to your council on loans raised' by the late Otane Town Board, brought about by the fact that the Patangata County is" this year collecting rates on a new and reduced valuation, whereas ours is on an older and higher value. The effect has been a very heavy increase in these special rates to us, and a considerable reduction to the remainder of the area still in your county. As our properties were transferred by your county at your request we feel sure your council will do what it can to remedy this injustice. Under present conditions we cannot afford any addition to our already heavy rates. We trust that you will be able to place us on the same footing as the remainder of the special area.” —Referred to the chairman and Cr. White.
The Disabled Soldiers’ Products Co. wrote advising that their factory, employing only severely disabled soldiers, manufactured dog-collars, and solicited the council’s business. —It was decided to write asking for samples of collars, together with prices. A letter was received from Mrs. 8. H. Willis, asking 'the council to place xi load of metal on her road, which at the present time was in need of metal. —The chairman advised that the work had been done.
Mr. G. C. Williams, Kangitapu, wrote asking the council to put in a cattle stop, and to carry out some fencing on his property near the access to the stony creek quarry-, this road having been used by one of the council’s contractors recently.—The engineer said that he w-ould arrange to have the job done.
Writing in reference to the alteration of the road through Kairakau (No. 1 and blocks 5,9799) and (1A) Afangakuri Crown grant district, the Department of Lands and Survey advised that there was no data in the office to bring the plans to a state sufficient for legislation purposes. The land’ traversed by the proposals had, since the date of the survey, been rather extensively re-subdivided, and it was obvious that the intersections would have to be pegged on the ground so that the area to be taken and closed in each .lot could l be determined. This as the council was aware, was necessary for title purposes.—Received. Messrs. Alitehell and King, in reply to a letter from the council in reference to the Waipukurau traffic bridge contract, stated that they did not anticipate any serious delay in completion, but at the same time had passed the council’s letter on to their foreman to obtain his intentions and mode of procedure with a view to expediting the work.—Received.
