WRESTLING TO-NIGHT
Dr. Meyer and Dean Detton
Although Hastings has been treated to some thrilling and spectacular wrestling contests during the present season, this evening’s bout between Detton and Meyer promises to be the most willing and interesting match yet seen.
The wrestling season is drawing to a close, and contestants are at present in the pink of condition after a hard season; also, the wrestlers are anxious to take a final opportunity of proving their worth to New Zealand followers of the sport, as possibly most of them will be here again next season and their performances now will determine their popularity next year. Hence, for a number of reasons, both Detton and Meyer will be anxious to make a final and lasting impression on the public of Hastings, so that should either of them visit this country next year they may at least be sure of an enthusiastic reception from supporters of wrestling in Hastings.
Both wrestlers have a variety of holds, and although they have met each other before, they are learning new holds continually and no doubt each will bo able to give the other a number of surprises during the evening which will tax the other’s ingenuity and strength in his efforts to free himself. An added attraction to the professional contest is a tournament between amateurs of Hastings and Dannevirke, All the amateurs have had much experience in wrestling and all should give satisfactory accounts of themselves. The bouts will be as follow, Dannevirke wrestlers being mentioned first:—
J. Ramage v. K. Kirschberg. A. Patterson v. R. Rika. T. Robertson v. P. McCashin. J. Galdstream v. R. Croft. N. Roberts v. E. Morley. Seats may be reserved at Hall’s bookshop.
