AFFORESTATION CAMP
Visited by Lord Bledisloe
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WANGANUI, Sept. 12.
Lord Bledisloe visited the youths’ afforestation camp at Kaitoke this morning and was welcomed by a large gathering of country people. The weather conditions were not too favourable, but His Excellency had an opportunity of inspecting the nursery, where 46,000 trees have been planted by the boys in the camp, the seed being collected when the camp commenced operations last year and germinated in a city nursery. These trees will be planted out next year on waste sand areas which have already been planted in marram grass. Lord Bledisloe expressed hearty appreciation at the work and referred to the benefit which would accrue from the afforestation scheme.
