A Hastings Tribute In paving a tribute to the memory of the late Mr G F. Roach, Mr W. E. Bate, speaking as chairman of last evening « meeting of tho Hastings Chamber of Commerce, at which a vote of condolence with Mr Roach’s widow and family was passed, referred to the great loss that tho community bad suffered. “He was one of the fathers of Hastings,” said Mr Bate, “and one of the senior businessmen of the town and district. Wo all came to appreciate his sterling qualities as a businessman, and Inter his keen public-spiritedness and high purpose. Shortly after the earthquake it was the privilege and pleasun of this chamber to honour him with a complimentary dinner, and lie was then elected an honorary member It was the least that this chamber could do in recognition of his great services to the town at the time of its greatest crisis. We have continued to hold him in the highest regard, which he merited in the business community, and wo learned with the greatest regret that he had passed from us.”
