Hastings Wins Trophy
WAIPUKURAU, August 18.
After having held the Ross Shield for two successive years, the Central Hawke’s Bay schoolboy representatives lost the trophy when they were defeated bv 17 points to nil by Hastings in the final match at Waipukurau today. The Hastings boys displayed an all-round superiority in combination and tactics and thoroughly deserved their win. At the conclusion of the game, the chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby* Sub-union. Mr B. L. Wallis, presented the shield to the victors and congratulated them on their splendid display. The’first half was entirely in favour of Hastings, the visitors’ forwards dominating play and forcing the home side rearguard back out of line. Hastings showed excellent pace and combination, scoring eleven points before the interval. Fleming forced his way over for two tries, one of which was converted by Dew, R. Fox securing a further three points when fie went across in the corner for an unconverted try. Central made a promising beginning after the spell, the forwards pacldng and following through with more determination and giving their backs more support. Tho change in form did not prove sufficiently effective to bring forth any points’ and Hastings gained a further unconverted try from Barry. Fleming landing a penalty goal. For Central.
