Lord Bledisloe’s Successor SELECTION ALREADY MADE (By Telegraph—Premi Aeßociatiou.) CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 20. An indication that u successor to Lord Blecdsloe, as Governor-Gener-al of New Zealand, had already been appointed was given by his Excellency in an address at the Jellicoe Hall. “1 have only this afternoon received confidential information as to whom my successor is likely to be, but 1 am not going to tell anyone about it at present,' said his Excellency. “But I can at least say this —that ol all the names submitted to your political leaders (one of which they have now decided on), there is not a single one of them who would not be warmly welcomed as the Governor-General of this Dominion. In my judgment it is a great tribute to the warmness of your hearts, the generosity of your welcome, and to the attractiveness of yoiir country that so many eminent men have expressed a desire to be among thoso from whom the choice was to be made. ’’

Sr Heaton, when statnif how fortuna.e New Zealand had beet in the selection of its Goverinii-s-Gen eral, said that the country had to giv< the credit to some influence in the till Land—either the Colonial Office, tin Cabinet, the Prime Minister, or hii Majesty the King. His Excellency, replying, said tbai he wanted to remind his listeners that the responsibility for the selection ot a Governor-General was sharer by the responsible authority at, Holin md the Government of New Zealand So that whether lie himself, or any ol his predecessors had earned approve or disapproval, it rested largely or those who were selected by the people to govern the Dominion.
