Sweet Agnes Wins Again CRANFORD THE SELWYN By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, August IS. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting concluded to day-. The weather was wet early in tho day after heavy overnight rain, but cleared later in the afternoon. In consequence the track was heavy. The attendance was good under the conditions. The totalisator investments amounted to £25,158, as against £32,343 on the concluding day last year. The total for the meet-
ing was £89,942, compared with £91,381 10/- last year, a decrease of £1439 10/-. Late results: —

Sunward fell at the fence near the sixfurlongs post. Transact lost his place through a bad jump at the far turn, and Verden was well clear of his field crossing the tup. Chile was Verden’s nearest attendant coming to the last fence, with Night Parade and Transact next. Verden tired badly in the run home and was beaten by three-quarters of a length by Chile, with Transact six lengths away third. Revision was fourth. Time, 3.25.

Beau Geste led out from Ventrac, Lady Spy, Tiger Gain, Mercian Prince and Cleaner. Rounding the far turn Ventrac led from Cleaner followed by Lady Spy, Tiger Gain, Beau Geste, Mercian Prince, Chhota and Sweet Agne<- Ventrac and Cleaner were together crossing the top, and led into the straight from Tiger Gain, Mercian Prince, Polydora, Sweet Agties and Water Power, Mercian Prince led at tho distance from Cleaner and Sweet Agnes, but the last-named finished strongly to beat Mercian Prince by half a length, w r ith Cleaner two lengths away. Silver Sight was fourth. Time, 2.1. Kapuna and Valpeen. led over Cutts from Membo, Thurina, Umtali, Hilly Boy and Peterette. Valpeen and Kapuna were together at the Kennels double and led past the stands from Thurina, Membo and Peterette. Thurina jumped to tho front at Cutts and was followed down the back by Kapund, which fell at the first sod wall. Thurina was three lengths deal' of Valpeen and Membo at tho Kennels, but Valpeen fell heavily at the top sod wall. Membo ran up to Thurina approaching the top brush, and led over the last fence to win by 12 lengths from Thurina, with Peterette ten lengths away and Billy Boy further back fourth. Time 6.11 3-5.

In the run home Calydon came from a rear position to beat Osculate by a neck, with Nightform three-quarters of a. length away third. Passion Fruit was fourth. Time, 1.46 On a charge of interference with Horowhenua'in the Redcliffs Handicap, A. E. Ellis (who is to leave shortly for Australia) was suspended for two months for careless riding. Haulbowline led from Cranford, Dismiss, Palermo, Slippery and Guarantee into tho straight but Cranford had charge at the distance from Palermo, Slippery, Might and Gay Court. Cranford stayed on and won by a length from Might witli Guarantee a neck away third. .Mobile was fourth. Time, 1.32 3-5.
