LEAGUE FOOTBALL

CLIVE STILL UNBEATEN BOTH MAORI TEAMS WIN, The meeting of the League leaders at Taradale Park, before over 600 spectators, saw the champion Clive team continue their success by defeating Taradale. The game was fast and open, both sides playing improved League football. In the early stages, Taradale had their visitors well on the defensive. Unfortunately a light shower set in that made tbe ball very greasy, and the home team through mis-handling failed to register at least two tries. The new Marama team, although they had played several friendly games with other clubs, won in their first outing for the senior reserve cup competition against City. The game was played at Bay View, before a good attendance. The other Maori team, Te Ngarue, had no difficulty in defeating Te Awa at League Park in a scratchy game. Each week sees the junior grades play a higher standard of League. In both games the play was of a very high standard, being fast and open, with plenty of thrills for their followers. Taradale defeated Ahuriri on the Taradale ground in one of the brightest and hardest games yet seen in this grade, while Westshore, who have been always likely to upset the leaders, sprang their second surprise by defeat, ing Clive juniors. Results of Saturday’s games:— SENIORS Clive (15) v. Taradale (7). , Te Ngarue (12) v. Te Awa (6). Marama (13) v. City (11). JUNIOR GRADE Taradale (11) v. Ahuriri (9). Westshore (11) v. Clive (8).
