HASTINGS SECTION. LEADING TEAM DEFEATED. The surprise in the junior grade fixtures at Hastings was the defeat of the competition leaders, Hastings, by Hastings Old Boys, the latter running out the victors by the margin of three points. The game was even and interesting throughout. The first spell was scoreless, but after the change over Muir and Lovey each scored a try for Old Boys, Read converting one. The Maori team, Pakipaki, provided little opposition to Celtic at the High School ground, the final count giving Celtic a clear-cut win by 26 points. For the winners, Kale, Pullen, McCarthy, Ryan and Keong scored tries, James kicked two penalty goals and a conversion, Hannah landed a field goal and Pullen converted two tries. With a margin of 14 points to six, Technical juniors beat Marist juniors at McLean Park, though it was not until. the second spell that they seemed likely to do so. Marist led until about the middle of the second half, but Technical gathered themselves and emerged fairly comfortable winners. Their scorers were Holder, Watts, McLean and L. Kauter.
