HASTINGS CHAMPIONSHIP Semi-Finals This Morning GARROD AND HOBBS IN FINAL The Hastings Golf Club’s annual tournament, which is being played at the club’s links at Bridge Pa, was continued this morning in perfect weather, when the semi-finals of the vari ous events were played in conjunction with a bogey match. The course is still in very good order, the greens 6cing true, while the fairways are veryfast. As a consequence the scoring has improved, several net cards handed in being under par. The arrangements for 'the tournament have been excellently carried out and reflect great credit on the secretary, Mr. E. A. Murley, who has been assisted by Mr. JI. A. Fannin as starter. The semi-finals played this morning resulted in J. B. Hobbs defeating W. Matthews by 3 and 2 after a close game. Both men were playing steady golf, and Hobbs’s round was 76, compared with Matthews’s 80, both players coming home in 36. In the other semi-final T. Garrod defeated R. Reid (last year's winner of the championship) 1 up. Garrod was 2 up going to the Btli, but Reid squared the match at the 10th. Garrod was dormie three, but Reid won the 16th and 17th and the 18th was halved to leave Garrod 1 up. In the semi-final of the Consolation Handicap S. Averill defeated C. Campbell 2 and 1- Averill was 3 up at the turn, and although Campbell reduced the lead to 1 up, Averill holed a birdie -1 at the 17th to win the match. N. Appelby defeated H. G. Harvey in the other semi-final, 2 and 1. The match wps square at the turn, but Appelby won the 11th, 12th and 13th 'to eventually be dormie 2 and halve the 17th and finish 2 up and 1. In the I.onglands Handicap R. Bridge defeated H. Blackmore 1 up at the 18th. Bridge was 3 up at the turn, but Blackmore played well to bo 1 up going to the 16111, which Bridge won. The 17th was halved, but Bridge won the 18th in 5 to finish 1 up. J. Jarvis was 1 up on J. B. Fletcher at the turn in the other semi-final, and 2 up at the 14th, but lost the 15th and was dormie 1 going to the 18th which he won in a birdie 4 to finish 2 up. Results:— CHAMPIONSHIP. Semi-finals. T. Garrod defeated L. Reid, I up. J. R. Hobbs defeated W. Matthews, 3 and 2. LONGLANDS handicap. Semi-final. R. Bridge defeated 11. Blackmore, I up . J. Jarvis defeated J, B. Fletcher, ’ up. CON SOLATION lIA ND ICA P. Semi-final. S. Averill defeated C- Campbell, 2 and 1. N. Appelby defeated 11. G. Harvey, 2 and 1. BOGEY MATCH. The following nro the results of the bogey mateh played this morning:—• J. McDonald, 4 up. J. L. Brathwaite. 2 up. W. A. Wilson, 1 up. G. Murfitt, 1 down. S. Powdrell, 1 down. E. J. Melrose, 1 down. The following are the progress results in tho play this afternoon:— Amateur championship: Garrod at tho 4th hole was 2 up on Hobbs. Longlands Handicap: Bridge was 4 up on Jarvis. Consolation Handicap; Appleby was 3 up on Averill.
