CALF IN BLUE SHIRT

Forced Sale in Ireland FARMERS’ DEMONSTRATION Trees Felled Across Road ißy Telegraph—Press As»u.~Copyright.) (Received 18, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 17. The “Daily Mail’s’’ Dublin correspondent says that an auctioned calf, clad in a blue shirt, was carried by a procession of thousands of fanners demonstrating at Mullingar after a forced sale of cattle for non-payment of annuities. Farmers previously made an effort to prevent the action by felling trees at dangerous road corners, necessitating civic guards and armed detectives sawing their way through. When the roads were cleared the farmers felled more trees to prevent the removal of the cuttie by motor. The sheriff’s helpers struck and refused to assist at 'the sale, but they were replaced. Several cattle were bought in cheaply by United Ireland officials
