WOMEN’S EQUALITY

Demands at Conference Peace and an equal share with men in those questions which most nearly concern the establishment of peace, were the unanimous demands voiced by the conference of the International Council of Women at Paris. Leaping over the barriers of frontiers. geography, religion and culture, women of the Far East, Far West, Middle East and Central Europe again and again stressed these objectives during the deliberations under the presidency of the Marchioness of Aberdeen aid Teniair. They asked for enlarged opportunities pl service in the

economic field, on electoral bodies which regulate public affairs and on international councils which regulate relations between nation and nation. Shortly before the conference commenced, a list containing the names of women competent to serve upon committees or in the secretariat of the League of Nations was dispatched to Geneva by the Liaison Committee of women’s international organisations of which the International Council of Women is a member. The conference here followed up this initiative by unanimously carrying two resolutions, the first of which draws attention to the fact that women have not yet been appointed to the governing body of the international labour organisation, while the second urged affiliated national councils to carry on propaganda for inclusion of women delegates in international labour conferences. This year, it was stated, only 11 women were appointed out of 148 delegates and advisers.
