LAURENTIC’S GOLD

Bullion Saved From Sea LONDON, August 17. The ‘‘Daily Mail’s” Londonderry correspondent states that after three months’ hazardous work off the treacherous Donegal coast private salvors recovered, part of the £1,000,000 remaining in the torpedoed Laurentic, from which Admiralty divers salved £4,000,000 in 1924, Recently the salvage steamer was fitted with special pumps, enabling the operators to clear the mountains of sand covering the Laurentic. Divers fought both weather and sea and often worked, only minutes at treacherous depths in the liner, which was beaten as flat as a pancake. The exact amount of bullion recovered is unknown.
