TREATING OF WOOL
NEW PROCESS EVOLVED British Research With Oils USE WITH FIBRES AS WELL (British Official Wireless.) (Received 2, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 1. A secret process whereby the quality of British textile products will bo improved and the costs of production lowered has been evolved after extensive experiments in the use of ionized oils by the Wool Industries Research Association. In place of the present treatment of raw wool, which is first scoured with alkali, then softened with olive oil and then again scoured to remove the oil, tho new ionized oils will both scour and soften, and can afterwards bo removed by washing. Wool thus treated is much whiter and softer than that produced by the old method. The now oils can also be effectively used for hemp, jute and other vegetable fibres, and the develop ment is considered likely to prove of extensive value in the preparation of many Empire products which at present are of little value. A large factory capable of producing ionized oils on a commercial scale has just been opened near London.
