Two old smokers met in Albert Park. Auckland, the other afternoon, and scraped acquaintance, as old smokers often will. “It’s funny,’’ said one, “my wife used to hate tobaceo-smolte like poison, now she’s all for it, and if I’m not smoking will ask: ‘Where’s your pipe?’ ’’ “Why the change of sentiments,” asked the other veteran, with a chuckle. “The wife says tobacco’s good for the temper,” was the reply. Both laughed heartily. “She’s right, there,” said the other, “nothing like a pipe to banish the blue and keep the domestic weather glass at ‘set-fair ’ But, mind you, the baccy must be the best! Myself, 1 find the New Zealand toasted brands are the best, by long ehalks. No nicotine in them to speak of. They’re toasted!” “What brand d'ye use?” “Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead).” “Why. that’s my favourite brand!” exclaimed the other. Both seemed pleased at the ditcovery. There are, by the way, four other toasted brands: Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold. They differ in strength, but not in quality. All are matchless!*
