Many lives were lost and thousands are homeless as the result of widespread Hoods 111 eastern Bengal and Assam due to several days incessant torrential rani. Railway lilies and bridges were destroyed and agricultural land inundated. A downpour 111 the Himalayan foothills ot unprecedented severity is taking heavy toll of jungle life. Carcases ol elephants, tigers and leopards have been observed in the Bramaputra river.
