TAKAPAU

SCHOOL PUPILS’ CONCERT. From Our Own Correspondent TAKAPAU, June 23. A concert was held in the Takapau Public Hall last evening to provide for sport expenses for the Takapau District •School’s football and basketball teams. The concert was well attended, and after the entertainment, supper was served and an impromptu dance held. As a result of the evening a sum of £lO, which included a donation of £3 from the Takapau Football Club, was cleared after paying the expenses of the evening. This can be considered a very creditable result when it is taken into account that prices for admission were popular ones, 1/- for men 6d for children and ladies a basket. At the conclusion of the concert Mt W. M. Paulsen, who acted as chairman proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to all those who had helped so gener ouslv and also to the concert performers for the very excelltent selection of items given. Special mention was made of Mrs H. C. Tennett, as promoter, to whom might be added the name of Mrs N. M. Paulsen, who acted as secretary. To these last two ladies and their coworkers is due the credit of a wellarranged, successful and thoroughly enjoyable evening. The concert programme wes as follows:— Mrs Bayliss, song, Madge Purcell, recitation, chorus songs, schoolchildren choir. Pat Murphy, pianoforte solo; Madge Purcell, Oliver Robertson and Jack Griffin, short '■.tones; Mr N. M. Tilley, song; one-act play, institute members, the performers being Misses D. Craig. B. Mouate, F. McMillan, Ethel White, J. Kilford and M. Askew; Edgar Ellison, violin solo; playette, Henr v VIIT. (J. Griffin), Catherine Parr (M. Purcell), page (A. Foley); Mrs Bjorngaard, song; Noreen Griffin, monologue; sketch by Takapau Presbyterian Church Bible Class; Bryan Griffin, recitation. Accompaniments were played by Mrs Bjorngaard, Mr Trevor Bayliss and Madge Purcell.
