FROCKING AT RACES

FUR COATS AND TWEEDS AT NAPIER PARK. Although threatening, the weather kept fine for the second day of the Napier Park races at Greenmcadows on Saturday. The air wns raw and it was cold underfoot, hut the occasional glimpses of the sun, combined with bright music played by the Napier Citizens ’ Band, were cheering. Then there were the thrills of the races to provide excitement, so. considering everything, the largo number present spent an enjoyable time.

The most favoured garment worn, and certainly the most suitable for the day, was the fur eoat. Frocks were bidden under the full-length coats, but three-quarters and half-length types revealed trucking which was of the true winter variety, such as soft cloth, Donegal and Harris tweed, etc., and many wore costumes of tweed or cloth under a fur coat. A.s regards colour, it was definitely a brown day. Very many wore brown quite unrelieved, ami others had either a guy scarf or hat mount to give a touch of colour. Hats Were worn mostly with a narrow brim, but many of the younger people wore berets, of which many varieties were noted. Among those present were; Mrs C. Louisson, wearing a very becoming euseinble in purple fnee cloth with hat to tone, having a broad collar of cream fox fur; Mrs J. E. Gleadow, becoming aeroplane model ensemble m Cheßtnut-brpwn cloth, finished in brown and chromium buttons. The matching toque had a beige braiding design to relieve, and a fitch fnr was also worn; Airs Ewen Troutbeek (Oniarunui) wore a brown musquash coat with skunk collar and chocolate-brown hat with tangerine mount.

Airs A. Macdonald (Palmerston N.) wore a fur eoat over her brown frock, and the. matching hat was of angora felt; Airs Eric. Nelson, brown, ensemble worn with angora felt to tone, with a tangerine trim; Mrs F. Fryer (Hast ings) wore a hat of mole angora felt with musquash coat; Airs John Mason wore a beige brown costume with small felt hat and also a short musquash coat. Mrs R. Bettington (Sydney), very smart tartan ensemble worn with brown fitch stole and pretty chocolate-brown toque in ponyskin; Mrs T. 11. Lowry (Okawa), navy niarocain and handsome fur coat, navy hat with chromium relief; Airs Fred Hall (Gisboi'iiC), royal blue Afghnlain frock, with hat to lone, trimmed with blue ribbon. She wore a brown fur coat; Mrs Haldane (Hatunia) ensemble in royal blue cloth, the fulllength coat having a deep collar of skunk fur; and angora felt hat in royal blue. Airs Wilson (Gisborne) wore a red frock under a brown cloth coat furtrimmed, the hut being in fur felt to tone; Airs Gatenby (Ilaumoana) wore a smart green shaded tartan cloth ensemble, the short coat of plain green toning with the felt hat worn; Mrs Hardy (Hastings) wore a navy frock under her fur coat, the hat being in crimson felt; Mrs Biggs, smart brown coat with angora felt hat in darker brown; Mrs C. Boyle (Wellington) wore navy marocain under a black tailored coat iu face cloth, and a pretty felt hat in forest green. Mrs C. Fox wore a royal blue panne velvet toque with frock of royal blue and white checked tweed and brown fur coat; Airs Simpson, nut-brown cloth dress worn with three-quarter fur coat and brown tucked felt hat; Mrs F. 8. Twist (Greenmea(lows), modish tailored costume in blaek flecked with white, fitch fur and black velour hat; Airs McKain covered her frock with a smart coat of green cloth, fur-trimmed, and wore a velour hat to tone; Airs Aforrin, black tailored cloth costume and felt hat; Airs A. Powdrell, black cloth ensemble and black felt hat. Mrs H. Peacock (Waipuknrnu), tailored costume in natural flecked tweed worn with fitch stole ami chocollatebrowp hat. Newton wore a black hat with her smart, tailored black cloth coat. Mrs Nicholson, light navy diagonal tweed ensemble with dove-grey felt hat. Lopdell’s model ensemble in myrtle green cloth was worn with a 1 velour hat in the same shade. I Miss G. Hardy (Hastings), tabacbrown frock and hat to match.
