LOCAL BODY CONTROL

WAIPUKURAU COUNTY COUNCIL. BUSINESS OF THE MONTH. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, -May 5. There were present at the, monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County Council to-day Crs. A. C. Russell (chairman). M. Tansey, P. F. Wall, W. T. Edgecombe. A. W. Elliott, W. Matthews, H. T. Wright, and J. A. Swinburn. Permision was granted to the British Israel World Federation for the use of lhe council chambers for committee meetings. A letter was received from Mrs F. Tully bringing under the notice of the council the matter of remedying what was considered the unsatisfactory state of affairs existing at a. piggery referred to as having been a source of annoyance to the residents for a long time. The writer added that she understood the Government Health Inspector had asked that certain work be done. Some discussion ensued on the subject, some councillors stating that there was an evident, smell from the piggeries noticeable from the road, while another councillor stated that the piggeries were kept clean and that the health inspector was satisfied with the position. It was eventually decided that the engineer, Mr R. B. Price, inspect the piggeries himself. Correspondence was received from tho Waipawa Hospital Board advising that a resolution had been passed expressing appreciation of the council’s action in paying the first quarter’s levy before the estimates were finalised. —Received. The Napier Harbour Board invited the members to take part in a tour of inspection of harbour works on a date to be fixed, the visit to be paid in company with other delegations representative of local bodies and their ratepayers. The chairman reported on the visit paid to Napier in acceptance of the offer. He read a letter re ceived from the member for the district further to harbour facilities, conveying a communication to the Prime Minister, and the latter’s reply thereto. ~ The Hawke’s Bay County Council enquired whether it was desired that a return of expenditure in terms of the following letter from the chairman of the Wairoa County Council be supplied:—“l have not included any expenditure out of th c Unemployment Fund moneys on road and bridge maintenance. If this expenditure is to be included please let me know, when I will supply you with the figures.”—lt was decided to advise that the Waipukurau Council did not favour the inclusion of such figures, this conclusion being arrived at on the clerk’s advice as to the position.
