Elderly Man Fatally Hurt By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 3. Fatal head injuries were received by Mr A. R. Ponder, a well-known commercial traveller, an elderly widower, of Rugby street, Christchurch, this afternoon when he was struck by » motor truck near the safety zone at the corner of Queen and Victoria street east. The vehicle, owned by Turners and Growers Ltd., was proceeding up Queen street, and Mr Ponder was knocked down, striking his head on the kerb of the safety zone. The injured man was unconscious and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. He died at 7 p.m.’
