HAUMOANA

HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING. (Own Correspondent.) There was a fail- crowd of householders at the annual meeting held m the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. Tho report and balance-sheet on the year's working were read and confirmed. A very substantial credit balance was revealed. Mr McKeesick, as chairman, thanked the householders for their attendance, and remarked how gratifying it was to see the interest they took in the school affairs. He referred to the excellent work done by Mr Cockerrll and hrs assistants, especially the improvements to the school grounds. The school at. present was certainly one to bo very proud of. Miss Ives’ transfer to Christchurch was very much to bo regretted. A discussion arose re irro removing of six trees near the entrance gates. It was eventually decided to leave the matter to the discretion of tha meowing committee. Nominations were called for positions on the committee, and the following members were elected: Messrs 11. Manning, 8. Freeman, E. Chapmap, C. Lloyd, C. Baker. M. Sourdon, and Bradshaw. PLEASANT CARD EVENING. A very pleasant little card evening was given for Miss Ives by Mrs Castle, at her resilience at Haumoana. The opportunity was taken to bid au revoir to Miss Jves, who is leaving the district after being a resident . for six years. The evening took the form of a “500 ’ tournament, and after some exciting games tho winners proved to be Mrs Graham and Mr Bowen, with .Mr and Mis Stubbs receiving the consolation prizes. A delicious supper was handed round. Mr L. F. Butcher, in a very appropriate speech on behalf of those assembled, wished Miss Ives every success in life. Mr Butcher was awarded the urst prize for the best speech.. In a competition Mrs Thomson r.as file winner. The singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought 11. most enjoyable party to a close.
