FOOTBALL FIXTURES AND REFEREES TO-MORROW’S MATCHES. i (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIPUKURAU, May 3. The fixtures and referees for all grades in the Central Hawke’s Bay Sub-Union’s competitions on Saturday are as follow:— Senior grade, 2.45 p.m. —H. 5.0.8. v. Takapau, at Takapau; Mr L. R. Cutforth. Ongaonga v. Waipawa, at Ongaonga; Mr R. Whitworth. Junior grade, 2.30 p.m.—Waipukurau v. Argyll, at Waipukurau; Mr T. Spencer. Waipawa v. Te Aut,e, at Pukehou; Mr R. Ashby. Tikokino v. Takapau, at Tikokino, Mr A. Rasmusson. H. 5.0.8. a bye. Third grade, 2.30 p.m. — Waipawa High School and Te Aute, a bye. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Rather a unique position prevailed at the annual meeting of householders at Waipukurau, held for the purpose of electing the school committee, when noc election was held, because of no nominations whatsoever being received al the appointed time. This state ot; affairs was attributed to the interest attaching to Atizac Day coinciding with the date for receiving nominations, paid the inauguration of a biennial t-airm may also have had some bearing on the situation. After consideration and discussion it was decided that the Education Board be asked to call for; fur ther nominations for the school committee. The meeting also passed a resolution to the effect that five-year-old ch/ildren should be re-admitted to the school as pupils. Further, it was resolvad that the meeting commend to the Government the need for extending the leaving age, as applied to compulsory attendance at primary schools, to 15 years, in terms of the amendment of 1920 to the Education Act. Mr A. C. Holms sponsored the latter motion The meeting was also of thje opinion that a biennial term for school committee members was not desirable.. GENERAL ITEMS. The Hawke’s Bay Elunt Club held a successful meet at Waipukurau to-day, when real wintry conditions prevailed for the rein. This, however, did not deter a representative field following the hounds over the course, which cov cred a wide area. The meet was held under the jurisdiction of Mr J. D. Beatson, of Hastings. At 5.30 this evening; a short circuit in electrical wiring, believed to have been caused by the wet weather, was responsible for the sounding of the Waipukurau fire-siren.
