RECENT QUAKE DAMAGE

Napier’s Quest for Aid The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has promised every consideration to the application made by the Mayor of Napier, Mr C. 0. Morse, for financial assistance for needy cases arising from the last earthquake originating from the north, the effect of which was felt severely in Napier. When he made his application near, ly a fortnight ago, Mr Morse disclosed that 104 chimneys had had to be reconstructed in Napier owing to damage inflicted by the earthquake. Mr Morse based his application on the fact that relief of the nature he had applied for had been granted to Palmerston North, where about 2000 chimneys had been brought down in the recent earthquake.
