SHEEP DOG TRIALS
East Coast Club’s Meeting There were large attendances both on Wednesday, the opening day, and yesterday at the East Coast Sheep Dog Trial Club’s 54th annual meeting, which is being held at Porangahau. fhe weather was fine on Wednesday, but yesterday there was a strong wind and a drizzling rain, which later developed into a heavy fall. Although the rain was unwelcome as far as the trials were concerned, it was badly needed in the district and should do a great amount of good to pastures. In spite of the unfavourable weather, the running was of a high standard and the difficult course tested the dogs to the utmost.. In Class I. there were 48 entries, and as a result the event extended over Wednesday and yesterday morning. Class 11. (heading) was commenced yesterday afternoon, there again being a largo number of entries. It is considered unlikely that the trials will be completed in the three days on account of the large number of entries in all events, and will consequently have to be continued on Saturday. The dance last evening was largely attended and proved most enjoyable. Following are the results of the events completed:— CLASS I.—Open. F. Tong's Joe, 10, 9,4, 4. 4, $)?.. i> 10J (57) ] G.
