BANK CHARGES
Fanners Desire Reduction I'elexranh-Pres. Association,! WELLINGTON, May 3. The opinion that as the Central Bank would take over the note issue for the Dominion the six joint stock banks should reduce their bonk charges for keeping accounts was expressed at the last meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. This was conveyed to the Associated Banks, and at yesterday’s meeting of the Dominion executive a reply was received stating that the banks would like to reduce the charge for keeping accounts as soon as possible, but the increase had been forced on them by the higher note tax, which would not finally run off till August, 1936, the date on which the Reserve Bank of New Zealand would take over the outstanding notes of the trading banks. As soon ns the banks felt that a reduction in their charge for keeping current accounts was warranted they would be glad to bring it about.
