BUYERS CAUTIOUS

Store Cattle Depressed The store cattle market appeared to be depressed at Stortford Lodge yesterday when an entry of 750 head came forward in this section. The demand was good, but buyers displayed a cautiousness which resulted in a big percentage of the offierings being passed in. The quality of the entry was mixed, there being a number of good store to forward conditioned lines included, chiefly bullocks. Young stock was in short supply and sold relatively well, one line of weaner steers making over the £2 mark. Some of the entries and prices paid from which an impression of the state of the market may be obtained were as follow • A pen of 7 Hereford-Shorthorn crossbred heifers, well grown and in good forward order, sold out at £3 8/6. Eight P.A. crossbred cows, down from Springhill station, fairly framed and forward conditioned, realised £2 11/-. A fairly framed store to forward conditioned line of 5 P.A. crossbred bullocks met the market at £5. Hereford and Hereford crossbred cows, a pen of 13 well grown forward conditioned line of cattle, had a ready sale at £2 15/-. Down from Rukumoana station, a line of 47 P.A. and P.A.-Hereford crossbred bullocks, medium framed and m good store order, started out at £3 10/- to sell at £4 6/-. P.A. and P.A. crossbred bullocks, a pen of 30 fairly framed cattle in good store condition passed at £4 10/-. A line of 33 Hereford bullocks, medium framed and in good store ♦rder, passed out at £4 5/-. A line of 28 dehorned Hereford bullocks, ex Tukamakihi station, medium framed and carrying good store order, a very even draft, failed to sell, passing at £4 16/.Forty PA. bullocks, down from Tukamakihi station, in similar order to the previous pen, also passed at £4 16/-. A line of 48 Hereford heifers, empty, all dehorned, down from the Mohaka district, medium framed, a good station draft, store conditioned, met the market at £2 10/-. A line of 61 empty P.A. cows, well framed and carrying store to forward order, realised £2 12/-. A Mohaka draft,of 18 heifers, with 3 cows included, empty, Hereford, P.A and Shorthorn crossbred cattle, small framed and store conditioned, met the market at £2. Thirty P.A weaner steers, small framed, well bred and in good order, made £2 6/-.
