NAPIER RED CROSS
NEW HEADQUARTERS OPENED. The Napier sub-centre of the New Zealand Bed Cross Society now has its own headquarters in Carlyle street, which were officially opened by the Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse, last evening before a large and interested gathering. A visit through the rooms was most interesting. The main hall is large, well-lit and nicely curtained in ecru Britway with red crosses appliqued. These, as well as the dainty blue ones banded in cream in the office, also the hall-table cover in cream with red cross, were the gift of members of the No. 1 Nursing Division. The Lady McLean Nursing Shield was prominently displayed on the wall, and for last night’s function the hall was specially decorated. The Red Cross flag, given by the Chinese community, was draped at the back of the stage, and on the president’s table was a bowl of crimson salvias arranged with maidenhair fern. The edge of the stage was festooned in trails of asparagus fern and red dahlias prettily inset. Autumn foliage with colourful chrysanthemums were set about the room. Lovely dahlias were also artistically arranged, and this work was done by Mrs L. S. McClurg and Miss Maisie Spriggs (V.A.D.). In the main hall are well-built lockers containing the equipment for the use of the V.A.D. detachment. The depot is roomy and convenient, and Mrs Collings says it is well stocked. The centre is appreciative of the kindness of Sargood, Son and Ewen for the gift of office linoleum. Among those present were: The Pre- 1 sident, Mr M. Spence, Miss E. King, M.B.E. (vice president), the Mayor and Mayoress. Mr A. E. Bedjjord (chairman) • and Mrs Bedford, Mrs and Miss Bowman, Mrs and Miss Spriggs, Mr and Mrs G. Madigan, Mr and Mrs W.
