HASTINGS YOUTHS
Proposed Recreational Club MEETING THIS EVENING In order to discuss plans for estabHsing a recreational and instructional club for the young men of Hastings, a meeting of those interested in the movement will be held in the Drill Hall this evening. The movement, which has been initiated by Mr. Baron de Castro, has for its object the providing of facilities for youths, particularly those who may be out of employment, to meet at regular intervals to take part in games and discussions. It is proposed, with the assistance of citizens, to secure boxing gloves, ping-pong tables, aud other recreational equipment which will be made available for use on selected evenings at the Drill Hall. It is also intended to arrange community singing and to have addresses given upon any subject of interest. Demonstrations by experts in boxing and wrestling will also be given. Several young men have signified their intention of taking part tu the club’s activities, and it his hoped that it will be possible to set up a committee of those who intend to take part in the undertaking, thus making the club largely self-governing. Interested citizens are willing to give support in various ways, but wish the young mon to feel at liberty to conduct the club’s affairs in their own way. The meeting this evening is mainly preliminary, but upon the attendance and the arrangements made depends the course of the undertaking. It is therefore hoped that as many as possible will be present. It should be understood that the club is intended to eater for all young men, and will be independent of all creeds and parties.
