RIFLE SHOOTING
HASTINGS MINIATURE CLUB. FREEZING WORKS TEAMS’ MATCH. The second weekly teams’ match between the Tomoana and Whakatu freezing works employees was contested at the Miniature Rifle Club’s shooting gallery in Heretaunga street. Great interest was taken in the competition and the various performances showed a very marked improvement on the previous week’s results. The Whakatu rifle team were first to finish, scoring the splendid aggregate of 400. With one man to shoot, Tomoana needed a 69 to win the match, the issue remaining in doubt until the last shot was fired. Requiring a “bull” with the fateful last shot to give his team a decisive victory, the strain proved too much for the Tomoana sportsman, and his shot registered an eight, thus giving Whakatu a win by the narrow margin of one point. The best individual scores were returned by E. Homes, of the winning tram, with a splendid possible, and J. W. Bong (Tomoana) with a 69. Following are the details: WH AR ATI’ TEAM. E. Merries 70 H.
