UNION AND GATE TAKINGS. SOUTH CANTERBURY PROPOSAL (By Telegraph—Press Association.! TIMARU, March 20. The proposal of the management committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union that country clubs contribute 50 per cent, of their gross gate takings has been the cause of dissension among country clubs. The matter was fully discussed at the annual meeting of the union last night, when the committee withdrew its motion and a proposal was submitted by country clubs that the union take 10 per cent, of the first £2O, 20 per eent. of the next £2B, 33 1-3 per cent, of the next £75, and £75 per cent, of the balance. This was carried. The union reverted to the system of three selectors in place of a sole selector. Mr. A. G. Knowles was elected president.
