Hailstorms Bear Him Upward NEW RECORD ACHIEVED (Received 20, 10.10 a.in.) LONDON. March 18. Philip Wills, a member of the London Gliding Club, took off from a slope 200 feet up on Dunstable Downs at 1.15 p.m. and landed at 3.45 p.m. at Lachingdon, 50 miles away. He reached a height of 4600 feet, a British record. He struck two hailstorms, using their upward current. He also glided 2000 feet above two Moth machines.
