POPULAR RESIDENT’S DEPARTURE PRESENTATION TO MR D. SMITH From Our Own Correspondent. At St. James’s Sunday school, Otajie, on Sunday a presentation was made to Mr Donald Smith, who for several years has taught in the Sunday school and has also been a valued member of the church choir, who is leaving shortly to return to his home in England. Miss L. Clark, superintendent, on behalf of teachers and scholars expressed regret at Mr Smith’s departure and extended best wishes for the future. In the unavoidable absence of the Rev. R. J. Hall, Mrs Hall said how sorry all the church members were that Mr Smith was leaving Otane and wished him every happiness and success in his future undertakings. Miss Ada Mason then asked Mr Smith to accept an attache case and shaving outfit, and extended to him the best wishes of the teachers, scholars and choir, Mr Smith briefly replied, thanking all for their kind wishes and handsome gifts. He had greatly enjoyed his work in the Sunday school and church and was very sorry that the time had arrived for him to leave Otane. Mr Smith left yesterday morning to visit a few places of interest in New Zealand before sailing for England. A very enjoyable cricket match was played on the Otane recreation ground on Saturday afternoon between Pukehou and Otane teams. Otane proved the winners securing 109 runs to Pukehou’s 67. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the Otane club. Master Billy Heid, who was removed to the hospital with a broken arm, was discovered, upon X-ray examination, to have also broken his shoulder He is progressing satisfactorily. Mrs A. G. ( lark was admitted to the Waipukurau Hospital during the weekend and her coiidition at present is rather serious.
