PAHIATUA DAMAGE

Consideration of Financing By Telegraph—Press Association. PAHIATUA, March 19. Advice has been received from the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates that the Government is considering the question of finance by way of loans on easy terms to repair earthquake damage in necessitous cases. For the purpose of preliminary consideration applicants are required to furnish within seven days estimates of the amount required, so that ways and means may be investigated. A tally of the damaged chimneys completed shows that over 500 in the borough need repair. The Ministers’ Association conducted a combined service of thanksgiving for the preservation of life in the earthquake last evening. There was a large attendance.
