ANOTHER WAR PROPHET
Outbreak Within Two Years GERMAN-JAPANESE ALLIANCE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, March 19. “War in the Far East within two years is almost inevitable,’’ said Lord Marley, speaking at Ipswich. “There is already some sort of understanding between Germany and Japan, and when Germany feels strong enough to co-operate with the stronger Japan they are likely to attack Russia simultaneously, hoping for the support of all other anti-Soviet nations. Such a war could not be isolated in the Far East because of the English, American and French interests in China. ‘ ‘ The only method of postponing and possibly preventing such a war would be by a conference of the Powers interested in the Far East in order to meet Japan's legitimate aspirations by the organisation of Far Eastern markets. ’ ’ Lord Marley served in various naval capacities before, during and after the war, and was also in command of an artillery brigade in France during the latter part of the war. He retired in 1920 and devoted himself to politics in the cause of Labour, becoming Under-Secretary for War in 1930-31. He is now chief Opposition Whip in the. House of Lords.
