MONSTER GYMKHANA
Great Day’s Outing AT HASTINGS ON THURSDAY An afternoon of real fun and entertainment, with a dance in the evening, is to be provided for the public of Hastings, Napier, and the surrounding district, at the Hastings Racecourse next Thursday. The afternoon will take the form of a gymkhana beginning at 1 o’clock, and there is a great variety of entertainments arranged. The price of admission for adults is sixpence, but children will be admitted free. The gymkhana is in aid of the funds of the Hawke’s Bay Children’s Homes, and an energetic and enthusiastic committee have arranged a programme that should make an irresistible appeal to the public. One of the most spectacular events will be a gallop-past of 50 two-year-old racehorses ridden by jockeys with full colours up, and also there is a first-rate programme of horse-events for hunters and jumpers. Another attraction will be a mystery tent conducted by members of the J. C. Williamson Musical Comedy Coy., who will also be present at the dance at, the Racecourse Kiosk in the evening. There is to be a leg-show competition for girls and men. Highland dancing, a mongrel parade, a burlesque drill display, games and competitions, side-shows, afternoon-fea, stalls of all kinds, and a baby-show. All entries except for the baby show will be postentries, and there will be prizes for all competitions. The following are the classes for the babv show:—Baby boys, three months and under; four months to nine months; nine months to 18 months; ami corresponding classes for baby girls. A special prize will be given for twins, and an extra-special prize for triplets. The dance, for which the charge will be 2/6, will make rj joyous ending to a great day’s outing.
