(Dug by “The Delver.”) Don’t forget that on Monday next general entries for the C.J.C. Easter meeting, with first acceptances for the Great Easter and Autumn Handicaps, must be in by 8 p.m, also first-day acceptances for the Manawatu autumn meeting, with final payments for the Sires’ Produce Stakes and Manawatu Stakes, by 9 p.m. It was the intention of R. S. Bagby to take Master Brierly to Trentham for the Autumn Handicap on the second day of the Wellington meeting, but he has abandoned that idea, and will race his charge at Paeron instead. One Wellington paper announced Master Brierly’s arrival at Trentham, but that was a mistake. * * * The “softer sex’’ has done well in eonnection with the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes. Since 1900 Miss Delaval, Cruciform, Nightfall, Tsolt, Ingoda, Counterfeit, Merry Roe, Afterglow, Lady Pam, and La Moderne have enrolled themselves as winners. » * • While working at Epsom last week the trotting mare Etta Cole faltered, and it was found that a bone in one of her legs was broken. Hopes were entertained that she might be saved for breeding purposes, but it was stated at Epsom yesterday that she had had to be destroyed. Waiuku put up a record in connection with the Thompson Handicap likely to stand for all time. He won in three consecutive years with 7.5, 8.13. and 30.5, the weight carrying record for the race. Waiuku won his races at Hutt Park. The first Thompson Handicap at Trentham was run in 1906 and won by Mystification. The New Plymouth jockey H. Goldfinch will have a busy time this week. He went to Paeroa by the night express on Wednesday to ride at the Ohinemuri meeting yesterday. He travelled last night to Trentham to fulfil engagements there to-day, and will be at Opunake for the meeting to-mor-row. There is no doubt, says a New Plymouth writer, that the night expresses with their sleeping cars are a great boon to jockeys. • « • Grampian, Melisande and Te Rangitumau, who are engaged on the first day of the Wellington meeting, also figure in the Champion Hack Cup, one mile and three furlongs on the second day. The conditions of the Champion Hack Cun state that the race is for hacks other than maidens at time of starting. Conseciuently the three horses mentioned will bo ineligible to start if they fail to win on the opening day. Grampian and Te Rangitumau are both on the improve and have been in the money during the last couple of weeks, therefore their prospects of qualifying for the race mentioned appear good. Vanestep, who is also entered for the Hack Cup, ceased to be a hack as the result of her two victories at Nap’er Park, her total winnings now amount, ing to £540. However, she is still entitled to run out her nominations at the Wellington meeting.
