GIRLS’ COOKERY CLASS

RESUMPTION AT NAPIER. THREE MORE PUPILS REQUIRED. The resumption of an evening cookery class at the Napier Girlc’ High School is desired by the Napier Secondary Education Board, which fully realises the value of such a class to girls. An offer to pay the fees of three pupils to make up the complement required before a class can be started, made by Mr J. H. Absolum, was accepted gratefully by members of tho board «t the March meeting last evening. The lady principal, Miss D. M. Arthur, stated in her report that nine students had applied for a cookery class, but she understood it eould not start until there were 12. “This is th< first year since the amalgamation, am! I believe for some time here, that much interest has been shown in th cookery class, and it is a pity that «< cannot start it yet,’’ she added. The chairman, Mr W. Dinwiddie, ex pressed the view that it was a pity that three additional students could not be found “It would seem that tho girls con aider dressmaking more important than cooking.” said Mr W. E. Barnard M.P., in drawing attention to tho fart that the evening dreos-making class had 11 pupils. “Surely the required class of 12 i can be found,” said Mr Absolum. “I 1 will make tin offer: I will pay tl-e year’s fees of the three additional pupils, if they can be obtained.” The chairman thanked Mr Absofni, for hi.- offer, vliivli the board gratefully accepted.
